A dor e a flexibilidade na vida diária de adolescentes praticantes de exercício resistido com pesos
Silva, Juliana
Objective: To verify the level of flexibility and the body pains in adolescents
who practice resistive exercise with weights and its influence on their daily
situations, in order to give a better orientation to the professionals of this area
while working with these adolescents.
Methods: It is comprised of 14 adolescent male athletes of resistive exercise
with weights (G2) and other 14 for the control group (G1) , whose ages were
between 14 and 18, from two small towns in Rio Grande do Sul state. The
fleximeter was used in order to evaluate the flexibility, with movements of
abduction and push-up of shoulders and hips, as well as push-up of knees. To
perform the evaluation and location of pain we used the scale topography of the
pain, and an adapted questionnaire with the aim to analyze the influence that
pain causes in the daily situations of the adolescents.
Results: In the actual study, it was possible to find 68% of the individuals
complaining about body pain, considering that 39% practiced resistive exercise
with weights. Analyzing the level of flexibility, it was lower for the shoulders and
higher for the hips and knees. The consequences of pain in the daily situations
point out problems with feeding and sleep, emphasizing that the group who
practiced resistive exercise with weights was more motivated in carrying out
the activities, feeling body pains or not.
Conclusions: There is a considerable incidence of complaints due to body
pain, mainly considering the people who practiced resistive exercise and a
difference of flexibility considering the upper and lower limbs. The causes of
these pains are still unknown.

Efeitos de diferentes sistemas de pedivela sobre a ativação muscular durante ciclismo incremental máximo
Dagnese, Frederico
Previous studies evaluating noncircular chainrings suggest that
changes in muscle activation would occur. However, no previous study
addressed this question. The aim of this study was to compare the level of
muscular activity between a conventional and a noncircular chairing system
(Rotor Cranks®) during incremental maximal cycling. Seven MTB cyclists
completed two incremental tests, separated for 48 hours, one for each crank
system. After five minuts of warm up, the test started with workload of 100 W,
which was increased in 30W every minute until exhaustion. Power output,
pedaling cadence heart rate and surface EMG were monitored. EMG was
recorded from the right rectus femoris, vastus medialis, biceps femoris and
gastrocnemius medialis. Power output, pedaling cadence heart rate were compared using paired t-test. The EMG data were normalized to the 100 W
workload and compared using a general linear model considering crank system
and workload and α = 0.05. No significant effects or interaction were found for
the variables analyzed. The present results do not support effects of the noncircular
chainring tested on lower limb muscle activation during incremental cycling in trained MTB cyclists.

Capacidades motoras e qualidade de vida de diabéticos tipo II
Katzer, Juliana Izabel
This study aimed at surveying the level of motor ability abd quality of life in bearers of type II usban centers from Santa Maria (RS) and Ronda Alta (RS). The survey addressed 43 people, sorted out within two group. For measuring the variables, the following instruments were applied: the Questionnaire of Quality of Life, the WHOQOL – Breef; the Reaction Time Test, the Manual Hand Ability Test, the Test of Static Equilibrium with Visual Control; and the Propriception Test. For motor capabilities , the results arrived at, with the Ronda Alta Group and Santa Maria Group, were, respectively overall Quality of Life (75.37, 7650); Reaction Time Test (354.02ms, 475.96ms); Manual Hand Ability Test (8.38s, 8,39s); Test of Static Equilibrium (28.46s, 26.62s); Propriception Test (11.150, 8,56 0 ), out wich only the TRS, within the GRA, was proven to show a satistically significant difference (t=0.030; p < 0.05). In both groups, the motor variables Reaction Time Test. As regards the variables Quality of Life, a pairwise correlation was found as between physical, psychological, social and environmental handling, as well as between these and the overall Quality of Life. The results point out thet, for both motor performance and quality of life, the diabetes bearers scored alike, excepting for the Reaction Time Test only.

Nível de atividade física dos servidores da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria
Bohrer, Tiago de Souza
PURPOSE: To determine the physical activity level of the civil servants of Federal University of Santa Maria, according to gender, age and functional category.
METHODS: Descriptive study with stratified aleatory sampling and a 5% error range. 3280 civil servants composed the population, and a representative sample was obtained with 307 men and 317 women divided into Superior Teaching Centers, Rectory and University Hospital. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, 8th version and long form was applied, self administered, classifying the civil servants into Very Active, Active, Irregularly Active “a”, Irregularly Active “b” and Sedentary. Descriptive Statistics, confidence interval and q-square were used for the association measures, adopting a significance level of 5%.
RESULTS: The mean age of the sample was of 43 years and 2 months with a standard deviation of 8 years and 2 months. It was determined that 80.9 to 86.7% of the servants (very active and active) attained physical activity recommendations. Irregularly Active “a” and “b” servants put together, represented 9.4 to 14.4% and sedentary level represented 2.83 to 5.83% of the sample. The proportion of women that attained minimal physical activity recommendations was significantly greater than men’s. Referent to age and functional category, there was no statistically significant difference.
CONCLUSIONS: The high proportion of active and very active servants reflects the awareness of the importance of an active lifestyle for the health of this population, probably due to the university atmosphere with an easier access to culture and information.
