Funções arquivísticas: contribuições para o cumprimento da lei de acesso à informação

Abstract

Archival functions are essential to guide the activities of any archive or archival institution. With the enactment of Federal Law 12 527, from November 18th 2011, known as the Access to Information Act, the use of the archives as source of information has become the focus of records management. Brazilian citizens have acquired the right to access public information with no need of justification. Transparency came to be regarded as the rule and secrecy as the exception. However, meeting the needs for access to information within the terms established by law has been a major challenge for institutions. And since disorganization of documents is one of the major barriers to access public information, this research aims to answer the following question: what are the contributions of archival functions for compliance with the Access to Information Act? To achieve this, a research was done using the deductive method, established by Descartes in the 17th century. The specific objectives of this work were a literature review regarding the archival functions, a detailed analysis of the abovementioned Act, and the association between the topics covered by the law and the archival functions. By achieving these three goals was possible to see that all archival functions are important for the compliance with the Act, especially concerning the classification and dissemination functions.
