O uso de antibióticos e o papel do farmacêutico no combate à resistência bacteriana

Abstract

This article presents a brief review of the literature on the use of antibiotics and bacterial resistance in addition to the function of the pharmaceutical related matter, the objective being to present what this professional can help solve this serious problem. Descriptive literature search was carried out for consultation and survey in the databases PubMed and Scielo. The keywords used were antibiotics, use of antibiotics, bacterial resistance, hospital infections, Pharmacist role in bacterial resistance, Pharmacist role in hospital infection. The discovery of antibiotics has become a milestone in the history of medicine, because it allowed considerably decrease the number of deaths caused by infectious diseases. However, misconduct such as the indiscriminate and excessive use of these drugs, fairly common practice, has favored the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The high rate of hospital infections is another aggravating factor of resistance. The pharmacist is a professional directly involved in the rational use of antimicrobial policy, not stopping at just comply with legislation requiring prescriptions for the dispensation of these drugs, but also committed to the transmission of knowledge, constant training and interaction with patients and other health professionals.
