Abstract

The technological advances that occurred at the end of the 20th century, especially those related to Information and Communication Technology (ICT), had a major impact on modern society, profoundly changing the interpersonal relationships developed until then. Likewise, the relationship of people with disabilities in society also represented a series of changes, given the increase in measures for their greater inclusion and recognition, as well as the publication of international and national protective standards. In this context, in which social relations go through cyber channels, with the increase in social interactions especially on social networks, the use of them to expose acts of private life is a reality. Therefore, this work seeks to analyze the nuances of the rights of people with disabilities in the context of the Network Society, as well as the exposure of acts of intimacy on social networks as a form of identity affirmation through recognition. The method used for the research is deductive, and the research problem is based on verifying whether: Does the performance of acts of intimacy by people with disabilities on social networks contribute to assisting in the process of identity affirmation? To this end, an analysis of the context of the Network Society and the evolutionary process of the insertion of people with disabilities in Brazilian history is carried out. In this way, and considering the changes in individuals' behaviors in relation to ICT, an analysis of the context of privacy and its externalization is carried out through the phenomenon of extimacy in the social networks of people with disabilities. The technical procedures adopted for the research are bibliographic and documentary, while the data collection technique is characterized as simple, systematic, non-participant observation and sampling. Thus, the research concludes that the use of the phenomenon of extimacy by the social group for the purpose of strengthening identity is positive.
