Abstract

The current article tells the work done during the research The image is also a text, developed with two 6th-year groups of the public system of teaching. The students of these groups have limitations in text producing, in reading and symbolic interpretation of the compositional elements of the work of art and in the cultural and historical contextualization between the work of art and its author. For this reason, the objective of the work was present didactic possibilities which allowed the students experiences in text production whereof reading and image interpretation. The method used to develop the objective was based in Triangular Methodology. The proposal of the work was to integrate the methodology to the technological resources as a possible mean to perform the activities of reading and interpretation, historical context, rereading of image and text production. As a final result, the work searched new possibilities to visual literacy and text production whereof the image, contextualizing it to the childish or juvenile universe of the student. Thus, it contributed to them to realize critically their own universe, giving importance to different cultural elements that compose it. In the end of the project the students could, not only overcome the limitations that gave origin to the work, but they established a relationship of cultural, social and historical identification with the Brazilian plastic artist Cândido Portinari and his social thematic work Children of Brodowski, of 1940 and 1955. Concluding this work two important objectives were reached, once in the first the students developed cognitive capacities to understand and interpret the images and symbols that compose not only the work of art, but the ones present on their world and, in the second one, the students were able to match their context of life to the work of Cândido Portinari (1903-1962).
