Meu filho é surdo: experiências vividas e a trajetória de ser mãe ouvinte

Abstract

The present theme has aroused from the wish of narrating the own life story so that other listener mothers as well as other professionals from the field of health and education can understand the deaf alterity. It has as the main purpose to describe the trajectory and the lived experiences in the condition of being a listener mother of a deaf child. In relation to the research problem it wants to know: what are the lived experiences and the trajectory of being a listener mother of a deaf child since the discovery of deafness. It is a research of qualitative nature that makes use of the biographical approach to report events and the experience on the interactions of one with the other – the dead other. To theoretically reference the study made a revision on: Libras: A Language of the Visual Experience that articulates manual, bodily and facial expression linguistic elements so that it happens in a determined space. In the literature, it was also sought to cover: Deaf alterity: The power of the other, where the deaf has his own way of existing and being in the world of visuality, therefore constituting as subjects in the visual experience. Then it seeks to register the lived experiences of being a listener mother of who daily lives the deaf-listener relation. The reports are in four scenes that contemplate: Scene 1: From the pregnancy to the deafness diagnosis; Scene 2: From orality in search for the deafness cure; Scene 3: From the school to the Brazilian Sign Language; and Scene 4: From the lived experiences. With the lived experiences and the path I took, I hope to share and contribute somehow in the trajectory of listener mothers in the sense of ensuring that their deaf children are widely and permanently exposed to the language and its pairs – the Sign Language.
