Excalibur como um Fantasma Nobre: uma análise da sobrevida de Rei Arthur na visual novel Fate/stay night

Abstract

This work introduces an analysis of King Arthur’s representations in the works “Le Morte d’Arthur”, by Thomas Malory, and “Fate/stay night”, by Kinoko Nasu. For this purpose, the theory of survival by Carlos Reis and the theory of convergence by Henry Jenkins were used as a theoretical framework. From these theories, this study perceives Arthur’s figurations considering internal and external aspects of both literary works, including characteristics of linguistic-discursive, media and extratextual order. In that way, the different signification processes that are applied in King Arthur’s figurations are understood, both in its origin and survival. In the analysis instance, the similarities and dissonances of the chosen representations are contrasted, and, from them, the different approaches and objectives that both characters incorporate are determined. The complexity of the processes involved in the creation and manifestation of a survival is considered, which incorporates both its original representation and the ideals it transmits, as well as a new perspective that tends to exalt or subvert the original characteristics of the character, although always maintaining them faithful to its historical roots. That way, this work fulfills the objective of understanding how the fictional representation of King Arthur has changed over time.
