dc.description.abstract | The sonographic evaluation of dogs with Cushing suspicion is based primarily on measuring
the diameter at the caudal pole. A maximum of 7,4mm diameter for the adrenal gland has
been routinely used as a parameter for providing a sensitivity and specificity of 77% and 80-
90% respectively. The study aimed to analyze ultrasound measures of the adrenal gland of
clinically healthy dachshund breed dogs, establishing normal standards for the breed.
Consisted in the study 24 dogs dachshund race, (14 females and 10 males), mean weight of
7.5 ± 2,44kg, mean age 6.5 ± 2,44anos and clinically healthy. These were divided into groups
by sex, weight and age. The animals were evaluated with ultrasound device Shimadzu-1100
and MicroLinear transducer frequency 10-12 MHz. Through the cross section measured the
length and thickness of the cranial pole and caudal pole of both adrenal glands. In this study
suggest a new limit to the caudal pole of the left and right adrenal gland, the dachshund breed
dogs clinically healthy, 6,43mm and 6,1mm respectively. Weight and age were the factors
that most contribute in the obtained measurements. The length of both glands and caudal pole
of the left adrenal gland, were larger in dogs >7kg while the cranial and caudal pole of the left
adrenal gland and the cranial pole of the right adrenal gland were larger in dogs up 7 years. | eng |
