dc.description.abstract | A case of peripheral vestibular disease and trigeminal neuropathy secondary to mandibular osteosarcoma was related in a dog, Labrador Retriever, with nine years of age and a history of head tilt and face asymmetry for approximately ten days. After two and a half months of the beginning of persistent clinical signs, the patient returned with an increase in right face volume, severe facial asymmetry, dysphagia, sialorrhea, pain and discomfort when opening and closing the mouth. In the inspection of the oral cavity, a mass partially obliterating the oropharynx was observed. At necropsy, an irregular mass of approximately 10x7x6 cm was defined as osteoblastic osteosarcoma, which ventrally invaded the oral cavity, between the mandible branches, which compressed and displaced the mandible, as well as compressing and invading the muscles of the region. Moreover, it replaced and destroyed the zygomatic process of the temporal bone, the temporal process of the zygomatic bone and the sphenoid bone, as well as invaded the skull and compressed the right piriform lobe. The report brings as a clinical relevance the inclusion of neoplasms, which affect tissues adjacent to the peripheral vestibular system, as a probable cause of peripheral vestibular disease and the importance of neurological examination in lesion localization. | eng |
