Estados alterados de consciência nas bacantes, de Eurípedes: uma leitura sobre mania divina, loucura e dualidade

Abstract

In this research, we addressed the idea of divine mania present in the greek tragedy Bacchae, by Euripides, from the 5th century BC. Like mania divina we are understanding an altered state of consciousness that appears in all Bacchae, showed especially by the maenads, the followers of the god Dionysus, the protagonist of the play. To contextualize our research, we explain the life of Euripides, the importance of tragedy for greek society in the 5th century BC, in addition to focusing on the work itself and its main characters: Dionysus and the maenads. In addition, we carried out a reading about the duality in tragedy, what it is and how it acts. Duality is, for us, a concept that encompasses two different (generally opposite) sides, but which complement each other during tragedy. Finally, within the aspect of the duality, we can work with the opposites of mania and madness, why they can be perceived as two different things and why we understand them as complementary.
