Abstract

This sports archive is important for the history of all sports institutions, including football clubs, so the purpose of this work is to demonstrate the importance of sports archives to archival theory and practice, through a case study, The Riograndense Futebol Clube and its documentary collection for the culture of Santa Maria. This sports institution was founded in 1912 and constitutes a Sports Heritage, historical and cultural of great importance for Santa Maria. This research used bibliographic research and informal interviews with members of the Club's management. The creation of the Riograndense Club was an initiative of a group of employees of Viação Férrea, who through the formation of a football team provided the integration and leisure of the railroad. In view of the above, the Riograndense Futebol Clube and the city of Santa Maria are linked by the economic, political, social and historical importance that the railroad has brought to the development of local and regional society.
