Abstract

The events of the 20th century, marked by two world wars and followed by the Cold War, culminated in the emergence of new issues on the international agenda, including hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition. Furthermore, the turn of the 21st century also implies a change in the role of International Law (IL), as new challenges arise within States and extend beyond their borders. IL begins to work with domestic institutions, either strengthening, supporting, or compelling them to act (Slaughter; Burke-White, 2006), and one of its manifestations is through international cooperation. In this sense, this study aims to empirically examine South-South cooperation in the context of family farming and to what extent it contributes to the realization of the Human Right to Adequate Food (HRAF) in developing countries. To achieve this objective, a literature review on HRAF is conducted to identify key institutional advances and how family farming contributes to its realization. Subsequently, a review of the literature on Brazilian foreign policy regarding South-South cooperation focused on family farming is carried out. Finally, the research presents the results of empirical research through quantitative and qualitative analysis, based on the collection of international acts related to the theme through the Concórdia Portal, linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE). This aims to verify whether the hypothesis is confirmed.
