Influência da abordagem odontológica na qualidade de vida relacionada à saúde bucal em pré-escolares

Abstract

Invasive dental treatment has been associated with positive self-perception of health and better dental condition. However, there is no evidence on the relationship between non-invasive treatment and oral health related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between dental approach, including invasive and non-invasive treatment, and OHRQoL in preschool children’s. We conducted a prospective study on 32 children with age range of 0 to 3 years. OHRQoL was assessed by the Brazilian Version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) before the first consultation and after at least 2 app. All the participating patients received care, with execution of a specific treatment plan. It can be verified according obtained that there was an improvement in the perception of the HRQoL after the dental approach, and it was considering invasive or not, approach with a statistically significant difference. Considering the sample in general, there was difference in the child session, specifically in oral symptoms and psychological limitation. For the group that received invasive treatment, there was difference in the total score, child session and oral symptoms, and for the group that received noninvasive treatment, there was also a difference in the total score and child session. The dental care of pre-school children significantly improves the HRQoL, regardless of the approach taken.
