As representações da mulher negra: uma análise do programa nação da TVE RS

Abstract

The present study deals with representations of the black woman in two episodes of the TVE RS Nation program. Being the Nation focused on the self-esteem and strengthening of the identities of the black population, we intend to analyze how the program represents the identity of the black woman, besides understand how the TVE organizes itself as a public broadcaster and to verify which are the materialized senses in the selected episodes about the identity of the black woman. Based on this, this research is justified by the need to broaden discussions on issues of gender and race in public communication vehicles. In addition, it is believed that this study can be a relevant contribution to studies in the area of communication, as another tool for reflection on black struggles. In order to do so, a cultural-mediatic analysis was developed guided by the Cultural Studies inspired by the Cultural Circuit of Du Gay (1997), combined with the textual analysis, by Casetti and Chio (1999), to construct a specific framework for the research. In this way, we tried to contemplate the cultural instances of the Nation as “regulation”, “production” and elements of the “representation” - history, scenes, verbal texts and subjects - to define the representation of the identity of the black woman. The results show that the representations of black woman in the episodes generate meanings that contribute significantly to the identity of the viewer. In addition, the selected episodes seek to evidence a plurality of representations about black women.
