A criação da Universidade de Santa Maria: análise das narrativas dos documentos e dos jornais

Abstract

This research has as its theme the comparative relation of the narratives of the documents of José Mariano da Rocha Filho (JMRF), and of the newspapers of the newspaper A Razão, of reliable information about the act of creation of the University of Santa Maria (USM), in the decade of 1960. This delimitation presupposes the observance of the reconstruction of memory based on records of information that prove the creation of the institution of higher education. As a problem, we seek to know the history of USM and the importance it was for the economy and society of the city of Santa Maria. The overall objective was to understand the historical facts of the creation of the USM. As a methodological approach, descriptive and analytical research was used for analyzing the information and the digitization of documents, complying with the recommendations of the National Archives Council (CONARQ), and the bibliographic research for seeking information in the literature dealing with the subject of this study. As a result, it was possible to identify that the USM started as a dream and based on this thought José Mariano with the support of society, politicians and the media of the newspaper A Razão in the 1960s, this contributed to consolidate the first steps towards the creation of the USM . It is concluded, therefore, that the analysis of the relationship of data, records of documents and newspapers, shows that the creation of the University was a long step to be taken. Therefore, the events of the past become a testimony of memory in the present and in the future of the history of the institution and the city of Santa Maria.
