dc.description.abstract | Osteometabolic Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by a decreased bone mineral
density and changes in bone microarchitecture and strength that cause increased brittleness and hence the risk of fractures. This disease affects the body systemic level and there are some signs the maxillo-mandibular level that the dentist can identify and assist in their diagnosis. The objective of this work refers to the importance of knowledge by the dental surgeon of this condition. Radiographic examination is of fundamental importance for diagnostic purposes and is through it, often we discover the disease and from there we can refer cases to the rheumatologist. Early detection, including dental environment, is very important considering that it is a condition that has no cure and it should be kept under treatment continuously throughout life. Lastly, if not adequately prevented, and early, bone mass loss may increase, asymptomatically, until the occurrence of fractures. | eng |
