In this work we present a espectrophotometric study and a photometric study in the filters B, V , R and I from the stars of the galactic H II region RCW 87 whose coordinates in the celestial equatorial system are α = 15 h 05 m 20.00 s e δ = −57°31′01.00 ′′ in 2000, with the objective of measuring its heliocentric distance. The photometric study of those stars has identified the possible ionizing stars of the object from their color indexes. Analysing the results obtained, we have made a espectrophotometric study of the star that has presented the smallest value for the color index (B − V), characterizing it as one of the hottest stars of the object. We had three groups of photometric images available for the study, which were obtained in the first observation run carried out at the LNA (Laboratorio Nacional de Astrofı́sica-MG) in April, 2005 using the 0.6 m telescope and a direct camera with a CCD detector. After determining which star would be selected for a espectrophotometric study, we made a second run, also at LNA, with the 1.6 m telescope, where four two-dimensional spectrum of this star were obtained. The reduction of these data was made using the software for reduction of astronomical data IRAF (image reduction and analysis facility). The analysis of the obtained spectrum allowed us to conclude that the selected star is of the spectral type B6V. Using the results of the stellar photometry, we have obtained that the heliocentric distance of the RCW 87 is 1.1 ± 0.2 kpc.eng
