dc.description.abstract | This study analyzes fake news in the Brazilian elections of 2018 and 2022, focusing on digital
strategies and the distinction between rumors and fake news based on intention and social
impact. The research addresses the growing influence of the internet and social media,
considering the legislative context related to fake news, including the Election Law and the
Electoral Code. The study, using documentary research, data from DataSenado and the TSE,
examined the interaction between fake news and electoral competition and its influence on
electoral processes. The existence of intense political polarization and changes in the political
landscape reflect the growing influence of social networks and 'filter bubbles'. Digital
transformation, reconfiguring electoral interactions and the dissemination of information as
well as disinformation. Fake news emerges as a challenge to democracy, affecting the informed
decision-making of voters. Legislative changes aim to balance freedom of expression and
electoral integrity. The increase in fake news complaints, as recorded by the TSE, reflects the
challenges posed by cyberspace in elections. DataSenado research reveals political polarization
in legislation against fake news. In conclusion, the study highlights the significant impact of
the evolution of the internet and cyber threats on Brazilian democracy, emphasizing the need
for ongoing legislation and digital education to strengthen democracy in the digital age. The
research suggests that the balance of the electoral process and democratic resilience depend on
the ability to adapt laws and educate the electorate in the digital context. | eng |

dc.description.resumo | Este estudo analisa as fake news nas eleições brasileiras de 2018 e 2022, enfocando estratégias
digitais e a distinção entre boatos e fake news com base na intenção e impacto social. A pesquisa
trata da influência crescente da internet e das mídias sociais, considerando o contexto legislativo
relativo às fake news, incluindo a Lei das Eleições e o Código Eleitoral. O estudo, utilizando
pesquisa documental, dados do DataSenado e do TSE, examinou a interação entre fake news e
competição eleitoral e a sua influência nos processos eleitorais. A existência da polarização
política intensa e mudanças no cenário político, refletindo a crescente influência das redes
sociais e das “bolhas de filtro”. A transformação digital, reconfigurando as interações eleitorais
e a disseminação de informações quanto a desinformação. As fake news emergem como desafio
à democracia, afetando a tomada de decisões informadas dos eleitores. As mudanças
legislativas visam equilibrar a liberdade de expressão e a integridade eleitoral. O aumento nas
denúncias de fake news, conforme registrado pelo TSE, reflete os desafios impostos pelo
ciberespaço nas eleições. A pesquisa do DataSenado revela uma polarização política na para a
legislação contra fake news. Concluindo, o estudo destaca o impacto significativo da evolução
da internet e das ameaças cibernéticas na democracia brasileira, enfatizando a necessidade de
legislação contínua e educação digital para fortalecer a democracia na era digital. A pesquisa
sugere que o equilíbrio do processo eleitoral e a resiliência democrática dependem da
capacidade de adaptar as leis e de educar o eleitorado no contexto digital. | por |
