Caracterização de ligas de Ti e Ti-Nb sinterizadas por ultrafast high-temperature sintering(UHS)
Abstract
O método de sinterização ultra-rápida em altas temperaturas (UHS), uma inovação recente, transforma significativamente o processamento de materiais ao aquecer amostras de pó compactado em questão de segundos, possibilitando uma densificação superior e transformação de fase mais rápida. O processo consiste na aplicação de alta corrente por um breve período de tempo sobre a amostra através de um feltro de carbono, no qual ela está envolta, possibilitando o rápido aquecimento. Inicialmente desenvolvido para cerâmicas avançadas, seu escopo expandiu-se para abranger materiais metálicos. Ligas de titânio são valorizadas por suas propriedades excepcionais, incluindo uma alta relação resistência-peso, resistência à corrosão e biocompatibilidade, tornando-as fundamentais em aplicações aeroespaciais, automotivas e biomédicas. Esta pesquisa explora a aplicação do método UHS em ligas de Ti e Ti-20Nb. Peças verdes, formadas por compactação de pós elementares, foram sinterizadas com diferentes parâmetros de corrente e tempo em um dispositivo UHS. Os resultados obtidos demonstraram que foi possível alcançar alta taxa de densificação (até 96%) em até 120 segundos de sinterização. A microestrutura e dureza dessas amostras foram analisadas por diferentes métodos experimentais e qualitativos, como microscopia óptica, análise de imagem, microscopia eletrônica de varredura, difração de raios-X, teste de porosidade de Arquimedes e teste de microdureza Vickers.
Foram encontrados valores de máximos de porosidade perto de 26% para as amostras de Ti e 34.5% para as de Ti-20Nb, sendo observados em geral valores de dureza mais altos associados à amostras com menor quantidade de poros. Os resultados de difração de raios-X indicaram a presença de carbeto de titânio - Ti2C - na superfície das ligas, o qual foi formado durante a sinterização devido a difusão de carbono do feltro para a amostra. Além disso, a avaliação comparativa das ligas de Ti e Ti-20Nb destaca a formação de fase beta do titânio com a adição de nióbio, acentuada em temperaturas elevadas de sinterização, em contraste com a formação exclusiva de fase alfa nas ligas de Ti. No entanto, contrariando as expectativas, o aumento esperado na dureza atribuído à incorporação de nióbio não ocorreu, com as ligas Ti-20Nb exibindo valores de dureza semelhantes aos das
ligas de Ti. Este estudo lança luz sobre a intrincada interação de variáveis na sinterização de ligas de titânio e titânio-nióbio pelo método UHS, fornecendo insights valiosos para o avanço das técnicas de fabricação de materiais e otimização das propriedades de ligas.
