Os desafios de um sistema de gestão ambiental na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria
Abstract
As Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES) têm apresentado inúmeras iniciativas no campo da gestão ambiental, no entanto, poucos estudos têm sido realizados em relação aos desafios de implementar um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental (SGA) com ênfase na Gestão de Resíduos em ambientes universitários no Brasil. O presente estudo tem por finalidade ilustrar os Programas de Gestão Ambiental que vem sendo desenvolvidos por diversas IES e fornecer subsídios para que a Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM) adote um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental voltado ao gerenciamento de resíduos gerados dentro da instituição a fim de possibilitar um maior controle dos impactos ambientais decorrentes das suas atividades de ensino, pesquisa e extensão, bem como a adequação à legislação. Para atingir tal proposição foi adotado o método descritivo qualitativo, sendo que para coleta de dados foram realizadas pesquisas documentais e de dados secundários. Como resultado dessa pesquisa pode-se concluir que lidar com resíduos em IES exige um esforço integrado e multiprofissional. Espera-se que através da análise dos programas realizados em outras instituições, as soluções concebidas para os problemas de gestão de resíduos gerados na UFSM reflitam a magnitude da referida instituição.
