A contribuição de Florestan Fernandes para o ensino de sociologia e para a educação no Brasil
Abstract
Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a contribuição de Florestan Fernandes não só para o ensino de sociologia, mas também, para a educação brasileira. Para tal, o artigo é divido em 3 partes. Primeiramente trata do sociólogo Florestan Fernandes, que tendo nascido numa família humilde, filho de uma camponesa portuguesa que emigrou para o Brasil aos treze anos de idade, ele teve que largar os estudos e trabalhar desde cedo para ajudar a família. Porém, sua vida se transforma com o emprego de garçom em um bar, onde incentivado a estudar termina o ensino médio e inicia seus estudos no curso de Ciências Sociais na USP, onde se torna sociólogo e professor universitário. Na segunda parte o artigo trata do Florestan político que como militante e posteriormente deputado, defendeu a educação para as massas e a escola pública gratuita. Lutou por um ensino de qualidade, democrático e justo para todas as crianças e jovens do país, independente da classe social, bem como, pela inclusão da disciplina de Sociologia no Ensino Médio. Para finalizar buscasse analisar brevemente a disciplina de Sociologia no Brasil e seus percalços para a consolidação de sua obrigatoriedade no Ensino Médio, bem como, a participação de Florestan Fernandes nesse processo. Afinal, se hoje a disciplina de Sociologia está presente em todos os anos do Ensino Médio, muito se deve a Ele. Ele, que mesmo podendo “colher os frutos” da sua vitória pessoal, decidiu contrariar o mérito individual e lutar por uma sociedade mais justa e democrática, com uma escola que fizesse de todos os alunos verdadeiros cidadãos, tendo no seu currículo uma disciplina que contribuísse para tal - Sociologia.
