Biotecnologia: avaliação da atividade amilolítica de Bacillus amyloliquefaciens
Abstract
A biotecnologia é o ramo da ciência que utiliza moléculas, vírus, microrganismos, células, animais, plantas ou parte deles em processos tecnológicos para gerar benefícios para o ser humano e o meio ambiente. Neste contexto, as enzimas são biocatalisadores naturais e extremamente importantes aos processos vitais, uma vez que desenvolvem funções indispensáveis nas reações bioquímicas do metabolismo celular. Estão presentes e ativas nos organismos vivos possuindo especificidades de reação em conformidade aos substratos, a fim de gerar os produtos principais e subprodutos das rotas metabólicas. Sabendo das necessidades humanas para uma população mundial com cerca de 7,7 bilhões de pessoas e a utilidade funcional das enzimas, observa-se de um lado uma gigantesca demanda pelo consumo de diversos produtos do setor agrícola, beneficiados e industrializados, como os alimentos e bebidas; vestuário no setor têxtil; remédios, medicamentos e cosméticos do setor químico-farmacêutico; produção de papel e celulose, nos quais as enzimas, principalmente amilases, têm sido largamente utilizadas nos processos de produção, para viabilizar os custos de fabricação e favorecer economicamente a demanda mundial. Dessa maneira, conforme os experimentos realizados nesse trabalho, a utilização da bactéria Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, para produção de amilases, demonstrou ser uma alternativa viável, considerando que os resultados obtidos na eficiência da degradação do substrato amido por estas amilases foram superiores à 90%.
