Abstract
Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca fue uno de los más inusuales conquistadores del Nuevo Mundo y, por eso, una mirada sobre las crónicas de sus aventuras es preciosa para comprender el proceso de colonización. El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar, bajo la perspectiva de la identidad, el texto de su autoría denominado Naufragios, buscando apuntar huellas de la concepción dominante acerca de los indígenas de América: eurocentrista, cristiana, capitalista y blanca. La reflexión sobre Naufragios plantea una serie de interrogantes que pueden resultar útiles en el contexto de la posmodernidad, donde los conflictos identitarios – germinados en tiempos tan lejanos – estallan con una fuerza sin precedentes.
