As funções arquivísticas e os documentos históricos: um estudo em instituições de guarda permanente
Abstract
Este trabalho buscou elencar e identificar as condições de guarda e conservação de alguns documentos referidos pela historiografia da cidade de Santa Maria, assim como identificou a forma como as instituições de guarda permanente destes documentos aplicavam os conceitos arquivísticos da descrição, classificação, conservação e difusão. Trata-se de uma pesquisa aplicada, qualitativa, e um estudo de caso dos Arquivos Históricos do Rio Grande do Sul, de Santa Maria e de Cachoeira do Sul; do Arquivo Público do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul, e dos Arquivos das Cúrias Diocesanas de Santa Maria e de Cachoeira do Sul. É uma pesquisa descritiva que consistiu na leitura de duas obras historiográficas sobre Santa Maria; a Cronologia Histórica de Santa Maria e do Extinto Município de São Martinho 1787 – 1930, de Romeu Beltrão e a História do Município de Santa Maria – 1797 – 1933, de João Belém. Após, foram escolhidos os documentos que foram pesquisados e definido o roteiro de visitas. Durante as visitas foram identificadas as condições de acesso, ferramentas de busca, forma de guarda, condições de conservação e os mecanismos de difusão de cada uma das instituições visitadas. Os documentos escolhidos para esta investigação foram todos encontrados, embora alguns em péssimo estado de conservação. De uma forma geral pode-se concluir que a documentação sob a guarda das instituições mantidas pelo estado está submetida a tratamento arquivístico, técnico e especializado, onde as funções arquivísticas são facilmente notadas. Por outro lado, os arquivos eclesiásticos ainda carecem da adoção de técnicas e ferramentas que os qualifiquem.
