Produção de cafeína por processo supercrítico a partir da erva-mate

A cafeína anidra é uma substância psicoativa muito utilizada nas indústrias farmacêuticas e de alimentos. A produção desta substância é comumente realizada extraindo-a do grão de café. Contudo, esta não é a única matriz biológica que pode ser utilizada para a sua obtenção, sendo a erva-mate uma alternativa viável. Desta forma, a empresa CREMMATÊ traz como proposta a produção da cafeína extraída das folhas de erva-mate utilizando o dióxido de carbono supercrítico como solvente. Pode-se destacar também que esse processo não gera resíduos sólidos pois estes são destinados para empresas produtoras de ração animal. Com um estudo de mercado, a empresa fica na cidade de Ponta Grossa (PR), devido à proximidade com os fornecedores e polos econômicos. A escala de produção de 1 tonelada por mês foi definida levando em consideração a capacidade dos equipamentos que são necessários para este processo, a baixa quantidade de produto é justificada pela pequena capacidade destes. Por fim, a viabilidade do projeto não foi possível, com um valor presente líquido (VPL) negativo, a principal consequência disso é a pouca concentração de cafeína na folha de erva-mate e ao alto custo de energia elétrica referente a extração supercrítica, para reverter essa situação o produto principal pode ser alterado para chá-verde, por exemplo, além de uma geração própria de energia elétrica. O projeto mostrou-se não rentável para uma produção anual de 12,58 toneladas de cafeína por ano com turnos de 8h/dia.
