This paper proposes a vector control system applied to the current control of a synchronous reluctance motor through the sliding mode controller combined with a disturbance observer. A mathematical model in the synchronous rotating frame is presented. Coupled terms are modelled as disturbances. The observed disturbance, obtained through the Disturbance Observer, is added to the sliding mode control law as feed-forward action. Simulation results presented confirm the effectiveness of the control strategy, where the proposed controller is able to mitigate the coupling between the axes, not transmitting perturbations from one axis to other. https://doi.org/10.53316/sepoc2023.011
