A recepção de livros de autoria de mulheres negras: representação e reconhecimento em leituras compartilhadas

Abstract

The dissertation seeks to carry out a study of the reception of works authored by black women in the reading clubs Lendo Mulheres Negras and Negras Escritos, the main objects, as well as other clubs focused on black female literature. Through qualitative empirical research, we analyzed the process of receiving books, in shared readings, to discuss the perception of black female readers towards black female authors and in this way understand the role of these clubs in the process of representation, in reinforcing or not of stereotypes, and recognition. The problem is centered on the question: What is the perception of mediators and readers who participate in reading clubs about the dynamics of representation and recognition triggered by contact with works by black authors? The work uses the premises about representation and recognition from bell hooks (2019), how they recognize themselves and the impact of works on their experiences as readers; as well as Taylor's (1994) concepts of recognition and Hall's (2016) media representations. We also used Isabel Travancas (2013) to reflect on new ways of looking at the reception of the book and understanding it as a media product and the works of Michèle Petit (2009) who talk about reading and the importance of the mediator. As methodological procedures, bibliographical, exploratory research, online observation and interviews were developed. As results, we point out that shared reading, in black women's reading clubs, is capable of bringing new meanings to the lives of these women. The books discussed address the experiences, from black perspectives that now recognize themselves through their stories.
