Gerenciamento de resíduos sólidos - a importância da educação ambiental no processo de implantação da coleta seletiva de lixo – o caso de Ijuí/RS

Abstract

This study's main objective is to investigate the importance of environmental education in the process of implementation of garbage collection in Ijuí. Therefore aims to identify and assess whether there are specific programs of environmental education in garbage collection in the municipality of Ijuí; see the effective participation of the population in the process of garbage collection, and even check what actions actually provide success of garbage collection. This work showed that it is extremely important to find a suitable target to "junk" through the solid waste management in the city, but it is also important to prepare the population for which the collection is successful. With regard to the method, one can say that the research used the qualitative methods that assume a descriptive approach to the problem at hand. We also conducted interviews with representatives of the Municipality, as the Municipal Department of Environment, Ministry of Works and Planning, and the company that provides garbage collection in the municipality. The theoretical addressed the Environment and Technology from the Industrial Revolution, the relationship of environment and society, as well as the importance of Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, and the whole question of urban waste and its management. A program of selective collection and conducted the population tends to develop a new mindset on issues involving the economy and environmental preservation. Ijuí succeeded in establishing the system of selective collection, but do not know why it has not had the impact that the project ought to be or misguided political disinterest in environmental issues, or "blessed bureaucracy," or even the lack of preparedness of the population through Environmental Education. The changes in the habits of the population to acquire the need to separate their waste is the most difficult because it requires effort and patience, so all the issues involving the selective collection must be well informed and taken seriously by everyone. By observing this issue there is the reality of a problem that is before them, and realize that the trash has not received the necessary dealings by the Government of Ijuí as well as the population itself.
