O movimento estudantil universitário em Santa Maria (1979-1984): da reconstrução da UNE às “Diretas Já”
Abstract
No final da Ditadura Civil-Militar no Brasil ocorreu forte disputa pelo projeto de
sociedade a ser instaurado na “Nova República”. Os opositores procuraram transformações
nas questões políticas, econômicas e sociais. Já os apoiadores da Ditadura buscavam defender
uma transição na qual a estrutura de poder não se alterasse substancialmente. Estas disputas
estavam inseridas dentro do movimento estudantil. Após boa parte das lideranças e entidades
estudantis de oposição terem sido cassadas na Ditadura surgiu, no final dos anos 1970, o
desafio de reorganizar estas entidades, conseguir a legitimidade por parte do governo e
estabelecer uma inserção no conjunto dos estudantes universitários. Em Santa Maria
observamos que estas discussões estavam presentes. Mapeamos os debates sobre a
reorganização da União Nacional dos Estudantes (UNE), em 1979, e da União Estadual dos
Estudantes (UEE), no ano de 1980. Com relação à representatividade estudantil nos
Conselhos da Universidade apareceu a defesa do um quinto das cadeiras destinadas à
categoria. As questões mais gerais também tinham intervenção estudantil, como na luta contra
a carestia, o arrocho salarial e na campanha das “Diretas Já”, em 1984.
