Acondicionamento do acervo fotográfico do Colégio Militar de Santa Maria

Abstract

The Photography meets very specific characteristics, since they are several layers whose physical and chemical behavior can be quite diverse and that they interact with the environment, they become susceptible to biological attacks. The structure and development process of photography has changed much during its history, making these types of photos also require different ways of treatment regarding its preservation. Likewise, the organization, cataloging and handling are directly related to conservation because they define the frequency and manner in which the photos are manipulated. From this perspective, it is essential today more than ever, the definition of quality standards in the organization and preservation of photographs and institutional collections in the production of research instruments. Based on this background, this study aims to conduct a survey on the photographic archive of the Military College of St. Mary in order to propose methods for packaging, preservation and show the need to preserve photographic documents either in paper or already digitized.
