dc.description.abstract | The aim of this paper is to demonstrate through the development of
educational activities using the history of mathematics, the real possibilities of using it
as a strategy for teaching and learning of mathematics in order to assist the
mathematics teacher in the classroom. In support of this work was done a search in
books, theses, dissertations and articles that speak on the topic. Many researchers
believe that mathematics education in the history of mathematics is a useful and
feasible to make mathematics lessons more enjoyable and provide an environment
conducive to learning the content taught. The series chosen for the development of
teaching activities was the sixth year of elementary school. We selected a few
activities that would enable combining history of mathematics with its content
requirement of the series. The work is divided into four chapters: Objectives,
methodology and theoretical research; Motivations for the use of mathematics history
in educational activities; Considerations First Study of the thesis of Michael Anthony
(1993): History and the teaching-learning Mathematics and description of didactic

sexto ano do ensino fundamental II ― antiga quinta série.
