Um olhar sobre a gestão de resíduos de serviço de saúde em duas unidades básicas no município de Lajeado, RS

Abstract

This study presents two different Basic Health Units (UBS) located in the city of Lajeado, RS. The proportion between the number of visits performed and the amount of solid waste of health services generated in these services was verified. In addition, the present study also characterizes and classifies the different groups of health waste, presents the main care with the handling and disposal of waste and informs the main preventive measures adopted by the UBS to avoid the occurrence of work accidents with biological material. The data of the present research were collected between December 2018 and January 2019, where the amount of health residues generated and the number of weekly visits were verified. Other information pertinent to the routine of the Units and preservation of the health of the health professionals involved in the consultations were also observed. The results show that the Health Units present a Waste Management Plan aimed at informing the correct form of segregation, conditioning, storage, transport and final disposal of the waste, besides describing several preventive measures and personal protection equipment (PPE) required. It was also possible to verify that work accidents with biological material are not uncommon and that due mainly to the different specialties offered in the Units, a great difference is observed in the volume of the residues generated in the different Units.
