Engasgado em privilégios: um relato de experiência em uma especialização em estudos de gênero

Abstract

It is understood that Western and Eurocentric society has always had difficulty in dealing with issues of sexuality, which is still seen, even today, as a taboo. This society, which sometimes for lack of information and sometimes for intolerance and prejudice, disseminates hate speech and practices all kinds of violence against those seen as "outside the norm". The present experience report seeks to highlight the relations of social privilege, given the experiences in the Specialization Course in Gender Studies at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), starting from an intersectional perspective. Thus, it was possible to demonstrate how access to information on gender issues and the awareness of our social privileges can be fundamental agents in the search for a less unequal, prejudiced and violent society. In this way, the intersectional approach, bringing several themes that permeate gender studies, contributed to the understanding and questioning of social privileges in different areas. In addition, developing this experience report, with a view to the issue of privileges, made it possible to demonstrate the importance of implementing such a course, given the current political situation we are experiencing in our country.
