As ruas gritam: um estudo sobre as representações de graffiti na cidade de Santa Maria - RS

Abstract

The present work has as main objective to discuss the graffiti representations in the city of Santa Maria - RS, understood as resistance to the hegemonic apparatus, which acts in favor of the maintenance of the inequalities operated by the capitalist system. Attention is paid to graffiti culture and its counter-hegemonic representations, presenting contextual points and identity issues related to the subjects involved in this practice. The first chapter presents the concepts of culture, identity, representation, hegemony and counter-hegemony from the perspective of Cultural Studies; the second chapter discusses graffiti and its representations, supported by the historical context of this manifestation, and paying attention to its relationship with hip-hop culture, and its expression in Brazil. The third chapter deals with the methodological path that guided this study: the cultural analysis, from the tension between lived culture and registered culture. Finally, the fourth chapter explains the process of creating the digital collection “@ruassm” on Instagram, reflecting the motivations that led to the idealization of this project and the path taken during its construction.
