O aproveitamento da casca de arroz para produção de energia elétrica no município de Santa Maria
Abstract
A casca de arroz é o principal resíduo produzido durante o processo de beneficiamento do arroz. Sua baixa densidade e elevado período de decomposição tendem a agravar os impactos da disposição inadequada dessa biomassa. O presente trabalho tem como tema o aproveitamento da casca de arroz de arroz através de uma Micro Central Termoelétrica (MCT) no município de Santa Maria, que conta com quinze empresas beneficiadoras desse cereal. A pesquisa reuniu dois campos de conhecimento: na área ambiental, o desenvolvimento sustentável, e na economia, a Contabilidade Ambiental. Esse aproveitamento considerou duas hipóteses quanto à logística da utilização da casca de arroz produzida no município: aproveitamento in loco no engenho ou em uma unidade centralizada abastecida com os resíduos coletados em todos os engenhos. O total de casca de arroz disponível em Santa Maria é de 13,5 mil toneladas, com possibilidade de gerar 5,0 mil MWh de energia elétrica. Devido às restrições técnicas, o aproveitamento da casca de arroz in loco só poderia ocorrer em um engenho de maior porte, restando 14 unidades desprovidas de destinação correta do resíduo em questão. Uma unidade centralizada de 600 kW foi então analisada, resultando em uma Taxa Interna de Retorno de 22% e Valor Presente Líquido de R$60.000,00, indicando viabilidade econômica para o empreendimento.
