A racionalidade no comportamento econômico: um estudo de caso baseado na economia comportamental

A base das teorias econômicas neoclássicas consideram o princípio da racionalidade otimizadora dos agentes
econômicos. No entanto, as pessoas frequentemente não agem necessariamente dentro destes pressupostos, como
argumentado pela Economia Comportamental e pela Contabilidade Mental. A partir desse debate, o objetivo da
monografia consiste em estudar como os agentes consideram a racionalidade econômica em suas decisões, a partir
do comportamento de alunos e servidores de uma instituição de ensino superior, por meio da aplicação de
questionário baseado no estudo de Shafir e Thaler (2006), que considerou nove grupos de questões com diferentes
temáticas aplicadas à investigação comportamental. Isto foi realizado a partir de três aspectos: do entendimento
teórico-conceitual e de contribuições empíricas à área; de verificar o grau de racionalidade dos respondentes,
considerando as visões neoclássica e comportamental; e, de analisar o comportamento de grupos distintos em
situações decisórias e compará-los (docentes, alunos e servidores e pessoas com conhecimento da área de Ciências
Econômicas e de outras áreas). Em termos de resultados, foram obtidas 489 respostas, as quais foram avaliadas a
partir da estatística descritiva, análise de frequência e teste de hipóteses. Os estudos que consideraram o efeito
framing obtiveram um grau elevado de decisões classificadas como racionais, o que sugere que este viés não é
prevalente na amostra analisada. No entanto, os estudos que consideraram o custo de oportunidade e a falácia dos
custos irrecuperáveis apresentaram maior grau de irracionalidade, o que evidenciou a ausência do princípio da
invariância. Isso indica uma desconexão entre o proposto pela teoria neoclássica e o comportamento efetivo dos
indivíduos. Quanto às análises por área de formação e vínculo institucional, foi evidenciado que apenas em um
estudo, que se relacionou ao custo histórico de decisões não-monetárias, apresentou uma distinção entre os grupos,
especificamente, com relação ao seu vínculo institucional. E em relação aos conhecimentos na área de Ciências
Econômicas, não foi constatada influência sobre as respostas em nenhum dos estudos, demonstrando não haver
distinção nas decisões no que tange a racionalidade entre os grupos avaliados. Essas evidências sugerem que as
decisões consideram diferentes aspectos, tanto racionais como comportamentais, o que se faz especialmente
relevante pelo resultado de que até mesmo pessoas com maior conhecimento em determinadas áreas de
conhecimento, como economia, apresentam comportamento igualmente irracional, ou o conhecimento teórico-
conceitual econômico não reduz a influência comportamental.
