Avaliação do emprego de lodo de tratamento de esgoto (LTE) e casca de arroz (CA) na produção de cerâmicas vermelhas
Abstract
A casca de arroz (CA) e o lodo de tratamento de esgoto (LTE) são dois resíduos industriais produzidos em grandes quantidades. O LTE é classificado como resíduo não perigoso de classe AII – não inerte e, apesar de suas características físicas e composição química semelhantes às argilas utilizadas na produção de cerâmicas, é comumente destinado a aterros sanitários. A CA tem aplicações na geração de energia como biocombustível e também como fertilizante para agricultura. No entanto a produção de CA excede o seu consumo e acaba tornando-a um passivo ambiental, assim como o LTE. A valorização destes resíduos para aplicações na produção de cerâmicas vermelhas é uma possível saída para este problema ambiental. Para verificar a viabilidade da aplicação de LTE e CA na produção de cerâmicas foram analisadas a retração, resistência mecânica, absorção de água, densidade aparente, eflorescência e presença de defeitos. Foram produzidas misturas com teores de substituição de argila por LTE de 0%, 2% e 6% em massa e a adição de 0%, 2% e 5% em volume de CA. Os blocos cúbicos de 30 mm produzidos por extrusão à vácuo foram queimados à 900 °C por três horas. Com uma taxa de aquecimento de 0,85 °C/min não ocorreu a formação de defeitos nas peças. A adição de CA causou uma diminuição da retração por secagem e um aumento na retração pós queima. Teores de 2% de LTE não causaram alterações significativas nas resistências mecânicas. Já a adição de 6% de LTE tornou as amostras menos confiáveis e gerou uma redução na resistência à compressão. A adição de CA nas proporções deste estudo não impactou significativamente as resistências. As adições conjuntas de CA e LTE causaram o aumento da absorção de água das peças e uma diminuição da densidade aparente. Baixos teores de LTE não causaram incremento na aparição de eflorescências, contudo os sistemas com 6% de lodo apresentaram o defeito de forma mais intensa. Constatou-se que a substituição concomitante de teores de até 2% de LTE e 5% de CA são seguros para a produção de blocos de cerâmica vermelha estrutural com desempenho semelhante à mistura referência.
