Estudo retrospectivo dos atendimentos clínicos realizados pela clínica de ruminantes na Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (2013 – 2014)
Abstract
No Rio Grande do Sul, a atividade pecuária esta baseada na criação de bovinos e
ovinos. Estima-se que existam mais de 14 milhões de bovinos e cerca de quatro milhões de
ovinos no estado. Para obter grandes produções de leite e carne o médico veterinário atua
auxiliando o produtor rural na manutenção da saúde desses rebanhos. A Clínica de
Ruminantes é o centro de referência da região central do estado e tem sua atuação voltada a
ajudar os produtores e técnicos desta região. O objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar quais as
enfermidades mais prevalentes na Clínica de Ruminantes (UFSM) no período de Janeiro de
2013 a Dezembro de 2014. Constatou-se que as alterações podais e a intoxicação por Senecio
spp. predominam na espécie bovina e as parasitoses e as distocias são as alterações de maior
ocorrência na espécie ovina. O trabalho permitiu constatar que os profissionais atuantes no
campo e os produtores retardam a busca por informações especializadas e muitas vezes
quando recorrem já ocorreu morte de animais e consequentemente perdas econômicas. Foram
ainda descritos dois casos clínicos ocorridos neste período, um por sua aplicabilidade e outro
por sua singularidade.
