dc.description.abstract | The aim of this article is to perform a literature review about the Essential Stimulation
on the cognitive development of Down syndrome babies.
The study makes an approach of three different aspects to contemplate the referred
objective. The first one, mentions the cognitive development theory of Jean Piaget and his
collaborators so that one can understand the global development of a child usually aged from
zero to three year and eleven months which period is worked in the Essential Stimulation. The second approach deals with the understanding of what is the Down syndrome and, lately in
the third and last approach a theoretical study about the Essential Stimulation and its benefits
in the childish development process of children with Down syndrome is presented.
In this study perspective it was possible to perceive the importance of knowing the
phases of the sensorial and motor development period to respect the cognitive development of
a Down syndrome child.
In each development phase the family mediation, when respected the child timing, is
an essential condition. In this way, we can, therefore, say that the Essential Stimulation is far more than helping the Down child to reach the maximum of its potentialities but, it is also necessary to think in the appropriateness of an specialized care which can emphasize the reconstruction of the familiar link that was broken while the discovery of the Down syndrome diagnose in the newborn child. | eng |

síndrome de Down.
abordagem decorrerá do entendimento do que é a síndrome de Down e, posteriormente a isso;
