Análise do desempenho escolar de alunos aprovados em conselho de classe

Abstract

The Academic Council of a school is an activity that joins a group of teachers of the same grade, aiming, in group, to reach to a systematic knowledge of the class, as well as follow and evaluate each student individually, through periodic meetings (Sant’Anna & Werneck, 1995, p. 2). According to Colégio Marista Santa Maria, the Academic Council is an consultative and deliberative organ that establishes its action in the rules of the Educative Project of the School, in the law came into force and in the general dispositions of the School Regiment aiming at: debating the performance of the class as a whole, analyzing its causes, its possibilities and limitations, offering alternative solutions, deciding about the student’s assessment; writing considerations about the didactic pedagogic subjects, general subjects of the school, when asked by the Direction ( item 3 Administrative Pedagogic Organization, sub item 3.7, of the School Regiment). The action evaluated by the Academic Council doesn’t limit to the judgment of the results, but follows the development of the student in the whole process of learning, getting information about the achievements of: knowledge, skills, habits and aptitudes (Perini et al., 1992, p. 4). In this research, it was analyzed the school performance of students, their assessment decided in the Academic Council in the subsequent years, in the subjects of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The study was done at Colégio Marista Santa Maria, RS. It was analyzed three groups of students that have studied in the high school for three years. In the first group, it was observed the performance of the students who entered the school in 1996 and finished it in 1998. In the second group, the students that started in 1997 and finished in 1999. In the third group the ones that began in 1998 and finished it in 2000. In the period from 1996 to 2000, three hundred and thirty three students started and finished their studies at Colégio Marista Santa Maria. Seventy four students were approved in the Academic Council, totalizing one hundred and twenty seven assessments by the Council. The assessment in the Academic Council didn’t compromise the majority of the students’ performance in the next grades. The subject that approved most in the Academic Council was Physics. In this subject, the largest number of approvals occurred in the second and third grades. In the first grade, Mathematics was the subject that approved most and Chemistry the one that approved least in the Academic Council.
